Not exactly high school baseball, but it gives you insight to the problems with championship brackets.

SEC Championship tournament:

#1 Florida remains
#2 Auburn out
#3 South Carolina out
#4 Arkansas out
#5 Vanderbilt out
#6 Ole Miss remains
#7 Alabama remains
#8 LSU remains

And #7 and #8 are the only two undefeated teams remaining. #1 lost to #8 and #6 lost to #7.

These teams were ranked strictly by numeric formulas...goes to show, you can never tell...

You're 100% correct. It doesn't matter the level (Rec, High School, College or Pro) teams that execute win. You can come up with all the scientific formulas in the world and it boils down to who plays the best on that particular day or days.
