LHSAA has announced that the 2011 state basketball and wrestling championships are being moved out of the Shreveport-Bossier area. Lafayette has hosted the state basketball Top 28 tournaments at the Cajundome for more than a decade. Last season was supposed to be the final tournament at the Cajundome before the move to Shreveport.

Once again, Shreveport gets the short end of the stick. Just keep every championship game down south!! I'll never go!!

News 10 reported that there were issues with the local Shreveport City Government. Something to do with Shreveport not following the original agreement to them hosting.

Yes, that's what I read as well. It seems like there should have been a contract that was agreed to by both parties that would have prevented this. If the Shreveport/Bossier area would have realized a $12 million bonanza, the fee the new group wanted to charge the LSHAA was very small potatoes. I can't blame the LSHAA for wanting to get out of this deal THIS YEAR.
However, I feel the LSHAA will jump at any excuse to keep the championships down south. For instance, a couple of years ago, the girls tournament was awarded to Monroe. When the ULM Conference Tournament conflicted and one, that's right, only one, night was moved to LA Tech, the LSHAA took the second year away from Monroe. But last year, when Mardis Gras conflicted with ULL and some of the finals were played on Sunday, well that was ok.
I have driven to Baton Rouge many times, including seven consecutive years and to Lafayette numerous times to watch my team(s) play and will continue to do so. And I know you won't believe it, but if you guys in South Louisiana had to drive to North Louisiana one or two years it wouldn't kill you. In fact, you might even find our part of the State ain't half bad.
Griffinfan, I hope you change your mind and follow your team(s) wherever they play. Lakobe1 and Sports Junkie, I don't know where in our Great State you call home, but if you haven't ventured north of Alexandria (or maybe even I-10) in a while, come visit us. You'll be glad you did.

I actually love the Monroe area, haven't spent much time in Shreveport but was looking forward to going there for the championship.

Yes, I heard on the radio this morning about the move to Ruston. Although that is further from my work than Bossier, it is closer to home so I am smiling! :D
