Situation:

Your team has only a limited amount of players to start off with (35). Your team is in the start of the 4th quarter of a home non district game and you are leading by 40 points. Your best and most experienced offensive lineman is still in the game and suffers a season ending injury, totally away from the play.

Any possible scholarship possibilities also thrown high out the window.

Who's to blame?

Your team goes on and loses in the playoffs, but its notes through out the radio broadcast that the game was lost weeks before it happened because of a key injury, to an offensive lineman.

I'm not a coach, but even with 35 players, if you're up by 40 in the 4th quarter. Your next step should be play those other kids. Coming from a school that has about that many players on its roster on a yearly basis, generally everyone plays as it is, but any "next level" players should not be in that situation

The coach. That is what he gets paid for. Its not how many points you win by, but its just so you win. Feel sorry for those kids.

Bad break for the player. More than likely the whole coaching staff should share the blame, especially the head man, seems like someone would have said "coach we still have ___________in the game, let's give em' a break." Yep the head man will have a price to pay, and if that incident doesn't nag him for a long, long, long time he may not need to be coaching.

We have been in that same situation going into the 4th quarter with a comfortable lead. Our coach always puts the second team in so they can get some game experience in case someone does go down in the future.
